Centreville Creek

Set on the rolling landscape of Bolton, Ontario, at the edge of the Greater Toronto Area, this 14,000-square-foot private residence began as an exploration of a single architectural idea expressed in more than one way. Rather than fix every finish at the outset, the design was developed as a series of studies — giving the client a clear view of how the same modern home could feel under different material directions before committing to a final scheme.

The architecture itself is consistent throughout: an unapologetically modern composition of clean, cantilevered volumes, floor-to-ceiling glazing, and deep wood soffits that reach toward the gardens and let the home settle into its setting. Generous terraces, a cantilevered pool, and glass-railed balconies extend the living spaces outward, capturing long countryside and sunset views.

Exterior studies. Two facade expressions were developed for the same massing. The first is dark and dramatic — charcoal cladding paired with warm timber soffits and black-framed glass, anchoring the home boldly into the landscape. The second is light and quiet — pale stone and stucco with the same wood and glass detailing, giving the architecture a softer, more luminous presence. Both retain the home's signature double-height glass entry, where a sculptural ring chandelier is visible from the approach. Interior studies. Inside, the open-plan great room rises through two storeys beneath a central skylight, uniting the living, dining, and kitchen beneath a glass-railed mezzanine. Here too, two directions were explored for the central feature wall and fireplace — one in bold, book-matched dark marble with gold veining for high contrast and drama, the other in a softer, light-veined stone for a calmer, more serene mood. Supporting spaces carry the palette through: a double-height entry vestibule in honed stone with a rich timber pivot door, and a quieter family room lined with a fluted wood feature wall, opening to the landscape on two sides.

Across every study, the material language stays confident and cohesive — natural stone, marble, warm wood, and black-framed glass — chosen to age gracefully and to keep the focus on light, volume, and the connection between indoors and out. The result is a single, considered home shown through multiple lenses: a clear demonstration of how thoughtful material and facade decisions shape the character of a space, tailored at every step to the client's vision.
